Indigenous Knowledge Conference with a focus on Mentoring a Generation of Leaders

beSuperior will be hosting an Indigenous Knowledge Conference in the Fall in Thunder Bay with the Title “Mentoring a Generation of Leaders’

The focus of this Professional Development opportunity will be determined as time and effort to hear from prospective presenters. If you feel you’d like to present please submit your information to me at besuperiorlearning@gmail.com

There are many themes to look upon which are the layers of support we need to do what we need to do well: Land based, resilience, family, self care, wellness, safety, cultural teachings, health, education, mentoring, & entrepreneurship.

I have a larger vision of building more supports for youth.  Identifying what this means, and how this looks for the north shore of Lake Superior.

While the conference will have an approach of Indigenous Methodologies, the conference will focus on being as open to partnerships and in recognition of making helping to support better relationships and build support.

Parameters of presenters should fall under:

Respectful: what is it that I have to offer that relates to respect.

Relevance: what or how or why is what I have to share relevant.

Reciprocity: how does what I have to offer give back to the community, and even lending itself to sustainability? Or what or how is this sustainable?

Funders

At the moment, beSuperior will be seeking funders who can help to support this conference.

Being  courageous is hard enough in a world that sets judgement calls on how you look, what you wear, who your are and possibly sends messages about your value. Remembering that your self worth is your everything.

Remembering our role as teachers and leaders that everyone has a space and needs to be respected for their individuality.

Planning for your future

Living in the past is so not a good way to be. Many of us can get stuck in the past. I know that I have lived in the past ALOT. Dreaming about other places. Better places. Getting stuck in your head is not a good thing but maybe a way to sort out being unstuck.

When I plan for my future, I honour my choices. I honour my ability to CHOOSE where I want to be.

  • I can make that shift to be a better more focussed person.
  • I can implement simple change into my life, even MOFO baby steps help one to get unstuck.

We all have a WHY? A why and an ability to figure out what that WHY means and is.  John Maxwell writes in Intentional Living, about the great WHY? His first question is, What makes you cry.  What deeply disturbs you?  What causes you discomfort?

Maxwell adds is Question 2: What do you sing about? What makes you joyous? What brings your heart content?  Giving yourself time and space to feel joy, is necessary. One of my joys i love metaphysics, and the universe. I am also inspired by pop culture. I love music.  What do you sing about? Are you a wonderer, or a wanderer. What is it you are looking for?  Maybe you are a deep girl, seek truths and simply, want to know.  Knowing what you sing about is part of figuring out how to lay down your now.

Question 3: What do you dream about? Living a life that matters is perhaps one of the greatest goals. Question like “What skills do I have to help others?”, What does my soul crave”, “How can your unique worldview and spark, inspire, help, build?”

Possible ways to help you in your journey:

How can I express my answers in a peaceful and joyful way?

How do I also inspire others?

What and where can I make these shifts in my life?

Where is my tribe, my team, my alliance?

When I feel it in my heart, where is this place?

Describe the place, and be in the places that serve you to know that higher purpose.

As for the future, laying out the straight up questions first, than make an effort to stay informed on your area, and field. Build a platform, or portfolio. Place yourself where your heart wants to be.

The best thing about planning for your future, is choice. The choice is yours alone, for up levelling, upshifting and being there.

Showing up is the first step.
